You’ll pass through monasteries, chortens, 3 different Lakes (i.e. Dhumba Tal, Chheyma Tal, Tete tal) and apple orchards—all while walking at a gentle pace. An Alternative Route for Lower Mustang Trek

If you’re looking for a more adventurous and less explored paths, our alternative route for the Lower Mustang trek provides a quieter trail through lesser-known villages, lakes, and viewpoints. Instead of sticking to the main route, this version explores side trails that connect to Chheyma Tal and Tete Lake, allowing trekkers to experience the solitude and untouched beauty of Mustang.

Starting from Kagbeni, the route passes through Jharkot and Muktinath as usual, but instead of looping directly back, you detour to Thini Gaun, a small village near Jomsom and Dhumba Lake.  Then the trail takes you to alpine lakes like Chheyma Tal and Tete Lake before reaching Kalopani. This alternative plan offers more variety, fewer crowds, and deeper cultural experiences. It’s perfect for beginners who want a little more adventure but still stay within the Lower Mustang boundary without needing special permits.
